Our EZ-EVALUATE bar handling system automates the handling of bars into and out of your centerless grinding operation, thereby eliminating the manual, time consuming and expensive process. The system utilizes laser sensors to read the OD of the bars to ensure proper setup prior to being released to the grinder and again at the exit to evaluate if they are complete or if they need to be recirculated for additional passes through the grinder. The EZ-EVALUATE option can be added to any EZ-SET or EZ-FEED system.
The operator uses an HMI to start the grinding sequence. A single bar is picked and routed to the grinder. A laser reads the bar OD and the system evaluates the bars status; A Go / No Go value is used to evaluate the bar being fed into the grinder. When the bar OD matches the specifications for the grinder’s current pass (Go), it gets fed into the grinder. If not (No Go), the system automatically waits until the grinder adjusts to the required specifications for the next pass.
A second laser reads the OD of the bar exiting the grinder and the system evaluates if it is good, bad or needs another pass. An HMI at the exit displays the status of the bars on the outfeed table. The operator can override any bar status as needed. Good bars get routed to the cradle straps where they are held for easy bundling. Bars requiring additional grinder passes get recirculated via an automated bar return system.
